Day 62 ocean swim - Floating out there in the sea

Day 62 ocean swim: Today is so much easier than yesterday. It’s my second day running into the sea since recovering from my injury. Tomorrow should be better still. But I’ve got to watch it, as I do not wish to hurt myself again.

Today, I swam alone way out to the deeper water... And I rested out there in the calm; floating face up towards the sky; the hot sun warming my exposed forehead and nose, while my submerged parts were lifted and made light in the clean, clear buoying swell. No pain anywhere. No pressure. No concern. Summer is here. And the ocean feels so good now to go in—like maybe, the very best thing in life, like maybe, the very best thing in life ever. Moments like these are something to remember. A thing to take home now to share. Something to smile about for no reason at all. A thing to be glad about for the mere chance to live.

Treasures like today are also something to take with me one day—if I make it that far—to the old folks home, where I’ll never again float alone in the sea. And I’ll make the nurses then wonder at my wry smile, and the distant summer warmth and light in my eyes, as a float there again in the sea.
