The Good Life - 03/28/2023 - Hard, necessary & important work *

Yumiko and I trudged through the beach sand yesterday after work with our dogs. It was a good trudge, satisfying after a hard Monday of work. The sand seemed especially thick as we were far up from the waves, avoiding the bigger dogs which unsettle our littler dogs. But when the big dogs were clear we walked together closer to the water’s edge, lapping like a wet dog’s tongue up and down the sand, so cold and wet and salty and inviting. An easier place to walk, the sand hard and firm like soft clay. We didn’t talk much, too tired from the day to engage—no words needed anyway, as we both know the score when it comes to Monday evenings. Tuesday evenings too, Wednesday also for that matter. These are the days to press through. Especially when there’s important responsibility to fulfill. Push and trudge through the sand until the hard and necessary and important work is done. That’s our decided purpose after all, to complete our hard and necessary and important work—through the thick sand and the thin.
