It’s gone. I just realized this morning that the worry is gone. That anxiety and frustration which has haunted my nights these last few years has left. I’m sleeping through the night now—every night. The insomnia, or whatever it’s called, “morning horror” works for me, seems to have lifted two weeks back, after March 31st, when I decided my date to retire and stop living this way (it’s December 16th, 2024–a Monday). The trick was my degree of resolve, as this decision was not pretend, or wishful thinking, but a quite determined and serious line in the sand, stated out loud and even told to my boss. I’m really going to do it. I will stop living like this on that particular Monday. Yumiko too (though she’ll stop sooner). We’ve both decided to no longer live this way. And now the worry has ceased. And I can sleep again. The days are still hard, of course, as my work hasn’t changed, but the nights seem to be my own again—the tide of worry now seemingly unable to rise higher than shuteye. I hope this doesn’t change, as it’s so nice to sleep well again. It’s so good to find peace, or at least the promise of peace.
