The Good Life - 10/24/2022 - Very tired this morning *

Updated: Nov 23, 2022

It’s Monday again and I’m ready for another week of work. Alright, maybe I’m not as ready as I’d like to be… I’m pretty tired actually. This move is a lot of work, and it’s not yet done. It’s like pulling ourselves out of thick mud where the depth of our legs into the saturated ground depends upon how long we’ve remained in one place, how far we’ve allowed ourselves to sink in. That’s why estate sales perhaps, where the mud became so thick around the body that it could only be loosened by strangers and commerce after we’re dead; people we don’t know who come to mill through our house and go through our kitchen cupboard and bedroom drawers, to hold our possessions and offer another stranger a dollar for grandma’s Bible (true story, that’s how I got my King James Bible). I guess in the long run it’s sometimes easier to let death and strangers give us the liberty we either do not want or which we find too difficult or frightful to take for ourselves. But it sure is tough work extricating Yumiko and I from our own mud—even after just a year in one place.

ABOUT

Going Alone was begun by Kurt Bell in an effort to help others understand and manage  the recognition of the apparent indifference of the universe to our well being, happiness or even our existence, and to find ways to make a good life in spite of this fact.
