I couldn’t sleep last night. Up, tossing and turning and worrying over things which I may not even be able to recall in a year. I keep telling myself and Yumiko that things will be less difficult after we “escape” back to Japan. Though that isn’t true. There’s always something. However, Stoic insight offers some relief in the perspective and remembrance of what is and what is not within our control. Turns out very little is. Mostly, we’re bit players in a much larger drama which began 13.8 billion years ago and will continue for many, many billions of years more. Apathy, applied in measured doses to the vast machinations of the cosmos renders our control and import to the tiniest, ephemeral dust motes floating just now before a warm ray of sunlight. Still, I worry. And I can’t sleep. And I know that Japan won’t fix that. Though improving my skills as a Stoic just might help.
