It was a rough day yesterday, though I did not let that prevent me from being productive at work. I’m sick. Not so sick I need a day off, but sick enough to slow my stride, dull my thinking and keep me out of the sea for a day. Though I did go to the shore at lunch to gaze at huge waves crashing with cavernous hollow barrels at the north side of the pier. I wanted to go in—though I know that the medicine of a cold ocean swim is not for the ill.
Now, it’s 4:00 AM next day. I’m a little better, mostly thanks to the delicious nabe stew which Yumiko made for dinner last night. That did the trick with the first bite—no kidding, it really did, first bite! But I still feel ill. I’m still sick.
I’ll work again today. More medicine. As good work makes me feel right. Just like good living makes me feel “done” in the best sense of the word. Done, as is nothing important missed or forgot. Done, as in settled if not complete. Done, like a period at the end of the sentence which is today, with no promise at all of a another chance to write tomorrow.
