The Good Life - 11/29/2022 - Less productive

Not as productive yesterday as I’d like. I hate that. It really, truly bothers me not to complete a work day driven hard and difficult—leaving me worn and spent. I don’t like not feeling like I’ve given the day my all. But that’s kinda the nature of end of year, things are a little slower, people are out, and there’s a deceptive sense of being caught up which January will gladly soon disabuse. I’m therefore going to do three things to address this December malaise: first, I’ll recognize it for what it is—a slow period in the work cycle; next, I’ll fill my free time with professional training to make me better at what I do; and third, I’ll schedule some time off to “go with the flow” of this holiday season slowdown.

But I can’t wait for 2023 to start and everything to get back to normal. Because I like a hard day. I like a full day. I enjoy feeling worn and spent and even a little burned out. Bring it on. Just three more years and I’m done. And I want to go out hard and good and with warm memories of a professional life and career completed well, and leaving an employer who will be sad to see me go.

I only hope I’ll know what to do with myself when there’s no more need to go so hard between 8 and 5.
