A daily mountain to climb. I’ve expanded Objective number two “The Good Use of Time” of The Good Life creed to include the idea of one task each day which will constitute my “mountain” to climb for that day; something recognized as important and perhaps more difficult than the other tasks I need to do, and which I must complete, or “climb” for the day to be regarded as a success. Yesterday—a day off from work—my mountain to climb was to hand-illustrate a hardbound copy of Going Alone for Eric in Sweden; which I did—I climbed that mountain. Today’s mountain is work-oriented, and involves achieving 100% readiness for a big presentation I will lead next week. If I can complete that task—today’s mountain—by 2:00 PM, then my mountain for today will be climbed, and I can feel satisfied with my living for the remainder of the day.
I think I’ll need a daily mountain to climb after my work life is done next year; something decided and good and substantial to tackle and address each day when I wake up at dawn; a strong and worthwhile determination of a good use of time, and a daily milestone and measure of a well-lived life.
